1. What is the Cascade System?
Cascade is a comprehensive system for enabling leaders to increase productivity, engagement and retention of talent at all levels of the organization.
Through our proprietary Managing for Performance Model™, assisted coaching and talent development assessments, Cascade provides the tools and systems for leaders to enhance the knowledge, skills and capabilities of their employees to maximize organizational impact.
2. What are the components of the Cascade System?
Cascade involves the following integrative tools to help leaders maximize the development and performance of talent:
- Managing for Performance Workshop and Model™
- Online Talent Development & Reminder System
- Developmental Resource Library (books, articles, web sites)
- DevelopmentView 180 Talent Assessment™
- Envisia Assisted Coaching Sessions
3. Why are some leadership development programs ineffective?
Leadership development programs are ineffective when activities, assessments and goals are not continually enforced among participants. When done correctly, leadership development programs can work, but many leave out the essential steps to enabling lasting behavior change, such as: creating awareness, creating developmental goals and holding people accountable for achieving those goals. Programs that leave these steps and others out of their process, will never achieve any real, lasting results.
A 2006 poll of 1,674 employees by the Hudson consultancy found that 12 percent of workers felt their most recent training session was a total waste of time (60 percent reported their last exposure to training was a good or great use of their time).
Executive coaching expert Marshall Goldsmith, Ph.D. reviewed how well 86,000 leadership training participants actually learned from the experience. He found that the people who went home, talked about the learning and worked to deliberately implement new behaviors had the best results. But those who just went back home and did no follow-up showed no improvement at all.
These studies suggest that most leadership programs do not lead to long term behavior change because most participants are not held accountable for implementing a specific developmental action plan or rewarded for deliberate practice of newly acquired skills. These are critical benefits of the Cascade System.
4. What advantage does Cascade give me that other programs don't?
Cascade delivers proven measurable results, enhanced performance coaching skills and development plans implemented for all talent throughout the organization. These advantages will maximize productivity and job satisfaction. Cascade's development program model allows managing and development skills to reach the leaders of the organization, their direct reports, and so on down the chain of command.
Cascade provides an integrated system to teach leaders to become more effective performance coaches and provides tools to facilitate deliberate practice and tracking of behavior changes.
Most programs offer an "edutainment" experience, which results in high energy levels and motivation shortly thereafter, but little is improved or changed once participants return to the realities of their job.
5. How much time needs to be dedicated to the Cascade System for it to be successful?
Performance coaching is not an additional task of leaders—it is the key to ensuring that talent are engaged and productive! The Cascade System provides a set of useful tools and processes for facilitating high performance on a continuous basis.
For most managers who attend the Managing for Performance Workshop™ and conduct assisted and non-assisted coaching, the program will require 8 – 25 hours with an Envisia coach throughout the process. Any extra time spent is up to the individual. The entire Cascade System usually takes 6 - 9 months to complete, but the timeline can vary depending on the size of your organization and any time constraints.
6. How many people need to participate in Cascade to achieve optimal results?
Leaders who understand how to drive business results in an increasingly competitive, global environment, recognize that a highly developed workforce improves performance.
For optimal results, 5 – 10 managers will participate with 40 – 50 direct reports that will receive either assisted or practice coaching from their manager. However, Cascade will work very well with organizations of any size, and it's up to the participants to ensure that their potential is being reached.
Cascade is so named because as more leaders participate, talent is developed throughout the organization, resulting in enhanced performance and retention of high potential talent.
7. How does Cascade relate to my company's existing talent management programs/initiatives?
Cascade supports the development of talent at all levels and has tools in place to help identify high potential employees and enhance overall performance and satisfaction.
Cascade can actually improve any company-defined talent management process you may currently have in place. Contact us to find out how we can help improve your current leadership and performance development programs.
